Editorial Policy

How we choose, check and publish what you read on Shoutout Nepal.

Trust is the whole point of Shoutout Nepal. This page explains, in plain words, the standards we hold ourselves to.

Sources come first

We start with primary sources: embassies, ministries, government departments, official notices and public data. When we use reporting from another outlet, we name it and link to it. We do not rewrite other newsrooms’ stories and present them as our own.

Every update shows its source and time

On Nepal Live, each update shows its primary source, a label for its status (Official notice, Verified, Developing or Resolved) and the last time we checked it. If sources disagree, we tell you that too, rather than pretending to be certain.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to monitor official sources, spot duplicate stories, summarise long notices and prepare first drafts in English and Nepali. These tools help us work faster. They do not decide what we publish.

  • A human editor reviews every AI-prepared draft against the original source before it can be published. Our publishing system will not let a draft go live until that check is done.
  • AI is never used to draft stories about politics, disasters, crime, deaths or allegations against people. Those are reported and written by people.
  • We do not use AI to create fake quotes, images of real events or people who do not exist.

Sensitive stories

Breaking news about disasters, accidents, crime or allegations is not published until it has been confirmed by an official source or by reporting we can stand behind. We would rather be second and right than first and wrong.

Independence and sponsored content

Advertisers and sponsors have no say over our reporting. Sponsored content is always labelled “Sponsored”, looks different from our journalism and never appears inside Nepal Live. We do not accept money to publish, change or remove a news update.

English and Nepali

We publish in both languages. Nepali versions are written to read naturally for everyday readers, not translated word for word. Official names, dates and numbers are kept exactly as the source gives them.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and say what changed. Significant corrections are listed on our Corrections page.
