Since 17 August 2026, visitors can get a Nepal tourist visa online, usually within 24 hours. Visa on arrival still works for most nationalities.

Landing in Kathmandu after a long flight and joining the visa queue is a rite of passage for many travellers. Now there is a faster way.

Apply online

Nepal fully launched its e-Visa system on 17 August 2026. You apply on the Department of Immigration’s online portal, and applications are usually processed within 24 hours. Visa on arrival is still available for most nationalities, and the older online arrival form is running alongside the new system for now.

Tourist visa fees

  • 15 days: $30
  • 30 days: $50
  • 90 days: $125 (multiple entry)

Who gets a free visa

  • Citizens of SAARC countries get one free 30-day visa per calendar year (Afghan citizens are not included).
  • Children under 10 are free, except US citizens.
  • Chinese citizens are free.

Coming from India?

Indian citizens do not need a visa. You must carry a valid passport or an Election Commission voter ID. The Embassy of India in Kathmandu is clear that Aadhaar and PAN cards are not valid travel documents for Nepal.

Not available on arrival for some nationalities

Citizens of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Syria and Zimbabwe cannot get a visa on arrival and must apply in advance.

Our tips

  • Apply a few days before you travel, not the night before, in case you need to fix a photo or detail.
  • Keep a copy of your approval on your phone and on paper.
  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
