Home on leave and dreading the queue at the Department of Foreign Employment? There is good news.

What changed

Under a notice issued in early June 2026, the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) now gives automatic approval in its FEIMS system to workers going back to the same country and the same company. The government describes the re-entry process as fully automated as part of its 100-point reform agenda.

Online renewal is not new. Since January 2021, workers have been able to renew re-entry permits online from any country, with the permit sent by email. Last fiscal year, 385,783 workers received re-entry approvals.

How to do it

  1. Go to the FEIMS login page at feims.dofe.gov.np.
  2. Sign in with your existing account, or create one using your passport details.
  3. Choose re-entry (punah shram swikriti) and check that your employer and country details are correct.
  4. Upload your valid visa and work contract if asked, and make sure your insurance is up to date.
  5. Pay the fee online and download or save the permit you receive.

If you are changing company or country, automatic approval does not apply. Your application will be reviewed in the normal way, so start early.

Don’t forget insurance

To get or renew a labour permit, workers must buy a term life insurance policy that covers two years. The premium is around Rs 3,500 to 5,500, depending on your age. A draft change to the law would replace this with a single fund, but until it passes, the insurance rule still applies.

In the UAE, the embassy in Abu Dhabi has also been approving labour permits online since February 2025, and the service is being extended to other missions over time.
