Cheated by an agent? You can now file a complaint online, from anywhere
The new ujuri.dofe.gov.np portal means victims of recruitment fraud no longer have to travel to Kathmandu. Plus: how to check an agency and what it is allowed to charge.
For years, workers who were cheated by a recruitment agent had to travel to Kathmandu, sometimes more than once, just to lodge a complaint. That trip is no longer needed.
File it online
Since July 2026, the Department of Foreign Employment has run an online complaint system at ujuri.dofe.gov.np. You can submit your complaint from Nepal or from abroad, and you receive a tracking number by SMS and email so you can follow its progress.
Before you start, gather what you have: your passport details, the agency’s name, any receipts or bank transfers, your contract, and screenshots of messages. The more evidence you upload, the stronger your case.
Check the agency first
The best complaint is the one you never need to make. Before you pay anyone, check that the agency is licensed on DoFE’s official list at foreignjob.dofe.gov.np. If you cannot find it there, walk away.
Know the fee limit
For jobs in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, the UAE and Malaysia, Nepal’s free visa, free ticket policy applies. The agency service fee is capped at Rs 10,000. In April 2026, the government said it would act against agencies charging more. Always ask for an official receipt, and pay through a bank where possible.
The government is also drafting changes, such as an employer pays model and fees payable only by bank or electronic payment. These are not in force yet.
